Are you accepting new patients?

Yes — we are currently accepting new patients throughout Texas. You can book your initial evaluation directly through our scheduling link or send us a message through the contact page if you have questions first.

Who do you see?

We see adults across all life stages — from young adults navigating early adulthood to older adults managing long-term mental health conditions. We do not currently see children or adolescents under 18.

Question 3

What conditions do you treat?

We treat a wide range of psychiatric conditions including depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, ADHD, PTSD, OCD, insomnia, and women's mental health concerns such as perinatal and perimenopausal mood changes. If you're unsure whether we're the right fit, reach out and we'll let you know.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is required. You can schedule directly through our booking page. If your insurance requires a referral, please check with your plan before scheduling.

How does telehealth work?

All appointments are conducted via secure, HIPAA-compliant video. You'll receive a link before your appointment. All you need is a device with a camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, and a quiet, private space.

Do you have a physical office?

No. Still Waters Psychiatry is a fully virtual practice. We do not have a physical office and do not offer in-person appointments. Care is delivered entirely online throughout Texas.

How long are appointments?

Initial psychiatric evaluations are 60 minutes. Follow-up appointments for medication management are 30–45 minutes. We keep our schedule unhurried so you never feel rushed.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations or no-shows may be subject to a fee. Please reach out as soon as possible if you need to change your appointment.

Can I be seen if I'm traveling outside Texas?

No. You must be physically located in Texas at the time of your appointment. Telehealth licensure is state-specific, and we are only licensed to practice in Texas.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, we accept select insurance plans. The best way to verify your coverage is to use the insurance scheduling link on our booking page — you'll be able to confirm your plan's eligibility before booking.

What if I don't have insurance or prefer to pay out of pocket?

Do you prescribe medication?

Yes. As a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner, Lorena Del Toro, PMHNP-BC is licensed to prescribe psychiatric medications in Texas. Medication is always discussed collaboratively — you'll never be pressured into a treatment you're not comfortable with.

Do you provide therapy?

Our focus is psychiatric evaluation and medication management. While we incorporate supportive, evidence-based approaches into every visit, we do not provide ongoing psychotherapy. We're happy to coordinate care with your therapist or provide a referral if needed.

Follow-up frequency depends on your individual needs and treatment plan. Initially, appointments may be more frequent as we find the right approach. Over time, many patients move to quarterly check-ins once stable.

What happens at the first visit?

Your first appointment is all about getting to know you. We'll spend time talking about what brought you in, your current symptoms, your medical and mental health history, and any goals you have for treatment. This is also your opportunity to ask questions and share any concerns you may have.

If medication is appropriate, we'll discuss your options, including the potential benefits and side effects, and create a treatment plan together. Not everyone needs medication, and there's never any pressure — we'll focus on what feels right for you.

My goal is for you to leave your first visit feeling heard, understood, and with a clear plan for moving forward.

What happens at follow-up visits?

Your care doesn't end after the first appointment. Follow-up visits give us the opportunity to check in on your progress, celebrate what's improving, and adjust your treatment plan if needed. This may include discussing medications, reviewing lab work, or incorporating additional wellness strategies.

The frequency of visits varies for each person and may range from weekly to every three months. Together, we'll decide on a follow-up schedule that best supports your mental health and treatment goals.

What do I need to bring?

For telehealth appointments, all you'll need is a quiet, private space, a reliable internet connection, and a phone, tablet, or computer with a camera and microphone.

It can also be helpful to have a list of your current medications, any recent lab results (if available), and the contact information for your pharmacy. If you've received previous mental health treatment, bringing those records can be helpful, but it's not required.

Most importantly, just come as you are. There's no need to prepare or have everything figured out — we'll take it one step at a time together.
